We have some exciting news to share today! Brand Driven Digital and Vernon Research Group are pleased to announce an exciting new partnership on a project designed to gain a better understanding about how individuals and businesses in the Midwest use social media. We announced this study together at a media event today at the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance.
The comprehensive new study is called Social Scene Midwest and consists of both individual and business surveys deployed online. The study is targeting 10 Midwestern states including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Social Scene Midwest is working to achieve a sample size of 1,000 participants in each survey — the size of most national studies — for a clearer, more in-depth picture of social media trends in this region alone.
In addition to quantitative metrics on individuals’ and businesses’ use of social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, Social Scene Midwest is also reaching beyond common platforms to include information on Instagram and Vine usage. The study will also examine several qualitative issues such as concerns over privacy, degree of attachment to social media, and what Midwesterners first think of when they hear the term “social media.”
While there’s certainly a ton of data that illustrates the impact social has had on us personally and professionally, none of it focuses specifically on our region. That’s why we are excited to partner with the research experts at Vernon to get a better picture of the ‘social scene’ in the Midwest.
Both the individual and business surveys that make up Social Scene Midwest are available now online for anyone in the region who wants to participate. Each survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. The results of the consumer study will be released later this summer while the business insights will be presented by Vernon Research Group President Monica Vernon at this fall’s Social Brand Forum, October 24-25 at the Iowa River Landing. All participants will be emailed the survey results if they choose.
