However, many brands are apprehensive about this very public, immediate form of content. How will we tell our story? How will we engage with our audience? So what is a “think-big” brand? In her speaking and consulting, Amy notes that she helps think-big brands find their personality. I couldn’t wait to ask her more about this. “A think-big brand may not be big but they want to have an impact. They want to produce authority.”
Beyond the founder videos. While these are great, Amy was quick to note that “there are many stories within an organization. When you can leverage that it’s really special. Even if it’s something as simple as taking people behind the scenes.
“You have to be fun if you want to stand out.” As we joked, this week’s show might stress listeners out. We touched on a lot of concepts that many today might be afraid of — creating video, involving your employees in video, and then (GULP!) having fun with it. While this is tongue in cheek these are very real concerns. Though different than the tall-order of being ‘funny,’ Amy reminded us that having fun keeps us inviting and approachable in our work.
Why the live streaming video movement matters. “YouTube is old. Live streaming is old. You may be sweating over video but it’s getting easier. (With the tools you have in your pocket) you can go live from anywhere. And getting live with your customers is amazing.”
Amy’s advice on getting started with video for your brand. “Never buy equipment unless you need it. You are already have everything you need. There’s no reason you can’t start today. A bigger question is what questions do your customers want the answer to.” That’s the secret of great content.
What brand has made Amy smile recently? “I feel like I already said it but I’m obsessed with Starbucks.” While the coffee giant gets a lot of cred as a great brand, Amy focused on their role as an early adopter of mobile technology. “I’ve been buying coffee from my phone forever because of them. It makes me smile and I have caffeine and I never have to pull my wallet out.”
