What If Employees Who Are Blog Authors Leave Your Business?

This week on Social Brand Chat presented by KXIC we discussed a question we received last week after our first Content Marketing Boot Camp in Cedar Rapids: “What if an employee leaves and they have blog posts up on your blog?” We all want our employees to be blog authors but what happens when they leave? Let’s chat about what to do in this situation.

As discussed during previous podcast episodes, employees can be incredibly useful in helping you create helpful content for your blog. Ideally we want to see their names and smiling faces on the by-lines of our posts, however, what happens when they leave? While we discussed a variety of factors and options that inform this decision, it’s important not to throw your good content out just because the author no longer works for you. You can re-assign the piece to a different author or, if the employee went to a non-competitive business, consider simply updating their bio to reflect this and leave the posts as-is.

For this week’s social media news, we discussed Lithium Technologies acquisition of social influence measurement platform Klout. What do you make of this?

Speaking of blogging … you should attend one of our upcoming Content Marketing Boot Camps in Des Moines, Cedar Falls, Davenport, Ames, and Madison. This daylong intensive and interactive workshop will help you be a better blogger, video marketer, podcaster, and content creator. Listeners of the podcast get access to a special group rate of $125 when they use promo code KXIC to register for any of our Content Marketing Boot Camps.
