What’s an Appropriate Social Media Response Time?

This week on Social Brand Chat presented by KXIC we discussed a question via Facebook from Genie Maybanks of New Pioneer Co-op: “What is an ‘appropriate’ response time for a question on your Facebook page or Twitter?” This is a very realistic issue that many social media marketers struggle with, especially as we deal with small teams and limited resources. Let’s chat about social media response time.

It can be easy to be black and white in thinking about “the rules” of social media. Instead of listening to all of the Dos and Don’ts, you should spend more of your time learning what works best for your business and your audience online. As my Work Talk Show co-host DJ Waldow is fond of saying, your best practices are what works best for your community. This also applies to online response times. While it would be easy to say that you have to respond to all posts in 11 minutes and 3 seconds, the reality is that this may not be the best fit for your organization and, furthermore, it may not be required by your community.

For this week’s social media news, we discussed Twitter’s introduction of a new web-based version of their popular Vine app. Though the business impact isn’t clear yet, one thing it means for certain is that it will be easier than ever to share links to these fun videos. What do you think?

Speaking of online videos … you should attend on of our upcoming Content Marketing Boot Camps in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Cedar Falls, Davenport, Ames, and Madison. This daylong intensive and interactive workshop will help you be a better blogger, video marketer, podcaster, and content creator. Listeners of the podcast get access to a special group rate of $125 when they use promo code KXIC to register for any of our Content Marketing Boot Camps.

Until next week, see you on the Internet!
